Abstract

Op 12 februari 2020 titelde de Franstalige krant Le Soir, na een parlementaire vraag aan de socialistische Minister van Onderwijs van de Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles: Le débat sur l’enseignement du néerlandais retardé, het debat loopt vertraging op. Dezelfde dag kopte de Vlaamse VRT-site enthousiast: Ecolo wil Nederlands als eerste vreemde taal in Wallonië. Hoe tegenstrijdig de berichten ook lijken, duidelijk is dat er in Franstalig België iets beweegt rond het (schoolvak) Nederlands. Gaat het om luchtkastelen, zand in de ogen of een kentering in het taalbeleid? Na een stand van zaken van het talenonderwijs in Wallonië, nemen we de verkiezingsprogramma's van de Franstalige politieke partijen onder de loep om na te gaan wie voorstaander is van verplicht onderricht Nederlands en waarom.
