Abstract
This contribution concerns the teaching and learning of duality in linear algebra. Combining an institutional perspective and the concept of didactic contract, we argue that some of the novice students’ difficulties can result from specific features of the university contract, at different levels. We illustrate this thesis in the case of duality, for which we designed an experimental teaching, using among other things a meta-language aimed at supporting students’ adherence to the new contract, at different levels. Analyzing students’ productions, we observe that they developed abilities specific to the new contract.
