Abstract
The article enhances understanding of the ideology associated with contemporary reforms of state-owned enterprises, while addressing the prospect of a possible renewal of social criticism. With its historical perspective and presenting an exemplar case study (Belgacom Company), it highlights the argumentative framework that tends to be associated with the modernization of state-owned enterprises; compares this with reality; and creates space for critical debate.
