Sound propagation in artificial periodic structures

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The problem of noise control is of central importance in many branches of physics, mathematics and engineering. In recent works, many researches have pointed out the possible existence of gaps in the energy spectrum of periodic inhomogeneous media. A gap is an energy range in which wave propagation is forbidden. In the case of acoustic waves, that gap leads to a spectacular sound attenuation.
