Project Details
Description
This project aims to prevent these serious diseases by vaccinating people at risk or carrier dogs. The first step is to further identify the strains of C. canimorsus responsible for infections by extensive genomic analysis of strains isolated either from patients or from all-coming dogs. The second step is to identify targets for developing vaccine-based prophylaxis. This vaccination could be given either to individuals at risk to protect them or to the dogs of these individuals in order to eliminate carrying. The vaccine could be based on surface polysaccharides that we will inventory and/or surface proteins or lipoproteins that are essential for the survival of the bacteria in the host.
