Project Details

Description

This project includes empirical attempts at highlighting the determinants of individual participation in collective endeavours consisting of the production of a public good, or the setting up and running of an organisation aimed at solving a collective problem (e.g., the management of a common property resource). It also aims at a better understanding of the modes of functioning of village organisations, and in particular the manner in which they are possibly able to surmount the problem of member heterogeneity. Toward that purpose, first-hand data have been collected by CRED members in Japan (completed), Ethiopia (completed) and Senegal (completed).
