Nowadays, the desire is to improve profitability and productivity while having the lowest production costs possible is highly fundamental in our society. This study analyses how The Economic Office of the Province, a Belgian multifunctional company specialized in waste collections, can improve its profitability by optimizing the transport of waste containers from collection centers to treatment centers.The results of the analysis show that it is possible to apply transport models such as linear programming in a specific case and provide a better understanding of how the process used to transport waste should work and how to readapt the process to ensure that the costs are optimal for the company.
By using linear programming, you can obtain a certain number of containers which must be transported to a certain treatment centre. If these conditions are met, then the company will have an optimal cost related to the transport of the waste which is nearly €340 million per year.
