    Résumé

As in most of the developing countries, urban agriculture and solid waste management appear as a basic key for development. It is recommended therefore to integrate those two components into any urban planning process. This poster will share an on going pilot project conducted in Bacolod, city in Central Philippines, regards the management of urban agriculture and solid waste through Geographical Information System (G.I.S.) and Remote Sensing (R.S.) techniques. The methodology proposes a 3 steps procedure: 1. A suitability map, created by the way of physical soil's data, and a social map, based on a local survey, are elaborated; 2. A community map, sketch map realised by the communities themselves expressing their views and priorities about their area, integrates the people's expectations in the process; 3. Landsat and Quickbird images provide an updated accurate land use as well as social indices to complete the dataset. For the pilot project, research institutes from Philippines and Belgium are joining continuing efforts to ensure a genuine participative sustainable environmental development.
