Résumé

Synchronization of a solid state laser with a widely tunable IR FEL will make nonlinear optical surface spectroscopy, such as sum-frequency generation (SFG), possible beyond the wavelength achievable using conventional means. For this purpose, we synchronized a frequency doubled mode-locked YAG laser with the FEL-CLIO (tunable between 2 and 20 μm). Sum-frequency generation has been obtained by mixing the two beams on the surfaces of GaAs and of Ag(111) evaporated on mica. This very preliminary result demonstrates that FEL-CLIO is a promising tool for vibrational spectroscopy of adsorbate by SFG.
