PROTECT (Pervasive and UseR Focused BiomeTrics BordEr ProjeCT): D2.1 Data management plan

The PROTECT project is committed to fully comply with the legal requirements concerning privacy and the protection of personal data when researching, developing and prototyping a contactless multi-biometric sensor suite to verify persons at borders. In order to ensure the most satisfactory compliance of the processing of personal data for scientific research purposes in the context of PROTECT with the EU and national data protection regulatory frameworks, the consortium has committed to adopt a Data Management Plan (hereafter “DMP”) as a key element of good data management.
This document is deliverable D2.1 of Task T2.1, WP2 – Privacy of the PROTECT project. The aim of D2.1 is to prepare a DMP regarding the collection, processing and use of personal data in the course of PROTECT. This Data Management Plan is inspired from the Horizon 2020 FAIR DMP template in annex of the “Guidelines on Data Management in Horizon 2020”.1
A DMP coordinator has been appointed by the consortium. The tasks attributed to the DMP are the following ones:
1. Preparation of a personal data management plan regarding the collection, processing and use of personal data in the course of PROTECT;
2. Collection of internal notifications of personal data processing operations directly related to PROTECT project and management of the internal register storing the notifications;
3. Providing advice on demand of the DMP members regarding the processing operations and their legal compliance.
4. Providing recommendations related to an information notice to the attention of all volunteers participating to the constitution of the PROTECT datasets in order to ensure the collection of volunteer’s explicit, specific and informed consents.
5. Drafting recommendations regarding the appropriate steps to obtain the necessary approvals by national data protection authorities and ethical committees for the processing of personal data by members of the PROTECT consortium.
Please note that this deliverable is intended to be a living document in which information can be made available on a finer level of granularity through updates as the implementation of the project progresses and when significant changes occur. As a minimum, this DMP will be updated in the context of the periodic evaluations/assessments of the project.
