Juridical Challenges of the Dialogue between the European Union and Religious and Non-confessional Organisations

Since 2007, article 17 of the Treaty on the functioning of the European Union provides that «the Union shall maintain an open, transparent and regular dialogue» with religious and non-confessional organisations. In 2013, the European Ombudsman condemned the European Commission to clarify the content of article 17 in order to implement it.
