N2 - So far, only scarce and rather diffuse information is available on bacteriophages infecting members of the genus Bifidobacterium. In the current study, we investigated the genetic organization, phylogenetic relationships, and, in some cases, transcription profiles and inducibility of 19 prophage-like elements present on the individual chromosomes of nine bifidobacterial strains, which represent six different species.
