N2 - Polyacrylonitrile films (0.1 μm) were irradiated with 3 keV protons (1016 ion · cm−2) and exposed to air (dry and humid). The chemical transformations were characterised by XPS and IRRAS. A significant depletion of the N-containing species in the first layers and a general increase in unsaturated structures are observed. After exposure to air for one hour, limited oxygen incorporation is noted, which seems to affect mostly the first layers.
