Electromagnetic Wave-Absorbing Coatings Based on Carbon Onions, NATO Science for Peace program SFP 981051

    Projet: Recherche

    Détails du projet

Beginning in July 2005, a team of investigators from Russia, Belarus, Belgium, and the United States started developing coatings that can efficiently absorb/shield wide-band electromagnetic waves. Such type of coatings can be used in a wide spectrum for security applications such as prevention of unauthorized access to computer database and personal data stored in RFID tags, reduction of infrared signature, protection from a directed electromagnetic pulse. Electromagnetic wave-absorbing technology can also provide shielding and grounding for a wireless handset and IT components, as well as medical devices. The basic absorbing component was onion-like carbon, which is produced by the high-temperature phase transformation of nanodiamonds.
