Présentation

-- I have moved to CERDI (France), please visit my personal website at https://sites.google.com/site/timotheedemont -- I received a PhD in Economics from the University of Namur in January 2013. I conducted my doctoral research at the Centre for Research in the Economics of Development (CRED). I have been a Research fellow at the Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS) from 2008 to 2012. In 2010-2011, I received a AMID Network - Marie Curie Fellowship to spend a year at the London School of Economics (August 2010 till Feb 2011) and the Institute for International Economic Studies of Stockholm University (March 2011 till August 2011). My research focuses on the access to financial services as a means of poverty reduction and development in poor countries. Theoretically, I am interested in the interaction between microfinance, informal and formal sectors in rural credit markets. Empirically, I am investigating the (long-term) impacts of microfinance on both participants and non-participants in Jharkhand, India, and the mechanisms thereof. In particular, I am currently studying the investments in children's education and health, as well as the absorption of income shocks. Recently, I have also started to study microfinance in the developed world, with the design of a randomized control trial in Italy about microsavings and the role of commitment devices in facilitating financial inclusion in developed societies.

Domaines de compétence

Applied microeconomics, rural financial markets, microeconometrics
