Présentation

Gert-Jan Put is a F.R.S.-FNRS Chargé de Recherches (Postdoctoral Researcher) at the Department of Political, Social and Communication Sciences, University of Namur. He is part of the Research Institute Transitions. From October 2017 until December 2019, Gert-Jan was a Senior Researcher at the Research Center for Regional Economics at KU Leuven. Before that, he was active as a private sector policy and communication consultant, organizing stakeholder relations and developing citizen participation initiatives for regional and local governments and private sector clients.

Gert-Jan obtained his PhD at KU Leuven in December 2015, and holds visiting positions at Tel Aviv University (2013-2014), University of Helsinki (March 2019) and University of Innsbruck (forthcoming, May-June 2020). He is currently a guest lecturer in Comparative Politics at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and KU Leuven.

His research interests cover the comparative study of intra-party electoral competition, political parties' candidate selection processes and electoral systems. His current F.R.S.-FNRS funded postdoctoral project focuses on the role of geography in intra-party competition. Gert-Jan has also been involved in several collaborative research projects on these topics, including the KANDI database project, Candidate Selection and Public Opinion and IntraComp. His work appears in journals such as Party Politics, Electoral Studies, Political Behavior, Government & Opposition, Regional Studies and Politics.
