Abstract

Managing online content moderation has always been complex, particularly with the evolution of communication methods, making it challenging to balance online safety and freedom of expression. Both the European Union and the United Kingdom have responded to this challenge with new regulations. The Digital Services Act has established a more regulated environment, incorporating a notice-and-action mechanism that enhances supervision and safety. While its implementation has shown effectiveness, challenges regarding freedom of expression persist. The European Media Freedom Act aims to safeguard media content, which plays a crucial role in expressing freedom of expression and information. This legislation includes provisions addressing media content moderation. Although it has been the subject of extensive debate and questions, its full impact remains to be seen.
