This work deals with whispering gallery modes. These correspond to resonance modes where light propagates around the circumference of a spherical cavity. We analyze it in two different configurations. We made a crystal of dielectric spheres in order to understand the interaction between modes pertaining to different spheres. To make easier the comprehension of the influence of one mode to the other, we look at the modification of the photonic band structure during
the construction of the crystal. This method is reminiscent of solid state physics techniques. We suggest a value for the interaction distance. On the other hand, we create a bislab, based on left-handed materials, which traps the light like whispering gallery modes. We show that this structure leads to a new light propagating mode.
