    Abstract

"This thesis belongs to the domain of user interface design inhuman-computer interaction, midway between software engineering and humanfactors. It is devoted to a methodological proposal for a computer-aidedpresentation design for an ergonomic user interface for a highlyinteractive business oriented application. The proposed methodology is threefold :1. the definition of a step-wise structured approach that guides designerthroughout the development life cycle : identification of presentationunits and logical windows, selection of abstract interaction objects, transformation of these objects into concrete ones, their placement intological windows and manual editing;2. a task-based generation approach to systematically derive presentationfrom methodological pre-requisites, which are in turn initiated from acontextual analysis : a statement of acquired/produced information and oftriggered functions and a function chaining model;3. the use of software tools to support some steps in order to provideassistance to designers based on guidelines. This systematic building is intended to be foundated on experimentallyvalidated guidelines towards a partiel, yet explicit integration of bothmethodological and substantive knowledge of human factors into an existingsoftware engineering methodology within a user interface perspective."
