    Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the resolution of nonlinear complementarity problems. They emerge in several fields, when among two nonnegative quantities, one is null as soon as the other is not. A reformulation as nonsmooth equations and then, as a differentiable minimisation problem is proposed thanks to a complementarity function. Resolution is performed by a nonmonotone trust-region method, whose local and global convergence is established. In a second time, a multilevel approach of complementarity problems is considered. We study how to define a coarser version of the problem, either by discretizing the NCP-reformulation or directly, just before applying the NCP-reformulation process.
