This work propose a survey of two important components of traffic simulation
models: car following and lane changing. A intensive review of the literature
have been made, and an attempt to classify these models have been undertaken.
The characteristics, advantages and drawbacks have been set in evidence.
For a better comparison, a simulation program was also created to test
car-following models. We used it to see how a few vehicles progress
within a small network. Concerning
the lane-changing problem, the study was more theoretical. A distinction has been
made between deterministic and probabilistic models, and several propositions
have been expressed for future research, specially about the probabilistic
approach.
