Nationalpoesie durch Übersetzung. Michael Hubers Anthologie "Choix de poésies allemandes" (1766) und ihre Rolle im europäischen Kulturtransfer

When Michael Huber published his anthology "Choix de poésies allemandes" in 1766, French readers were just discovering German literature. This article illustrates the extent to which this anthology was part of a transnational network. Firstly, it shows which preparatory work and collaborations Huber drew on, before turning to the German and Italian reception of this collection. In this context, the writings of Jakob Friedrich von Bielfeld and Aurelio de’ Giorgi Bertola are also taken into account. It thus becomes clear that a national poetry can emerge precisely through the publication and dissemination of translations, and that even national thinking and cosmopolitan views go hand in hand.
