Entity-Relationship Models: Formal Specification and Comparison

Research output: Contribution in Book/Catalog/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

The paper is an abstract of a tutorial presented at the 9th ERA conference. It defines a generic model based on an extension of the N1NF relational model (including, a.o., the entity domain), and whose semantics is formally specified. From this framework, a variety of standard entity-based and object-based models are derived. Thefore, the latter can be formally defined, and compared. In addition, the concept of schema transformation is introduced.
