    Abstract

We studied De Haerdtl great inequality 7:3 between the Galilean satellites Ganymede and Callisto and proved its high dynamical importance. We show that it induces chaos by Chirikov diffusion because of overlaps of several resonances. We identified these resonances thanks to a numerical frequency analysis. This study is a first step to the elaboration of a scenario of dynamical evolution of the Galilean system, taking account of De Haerdtl inequality.
