Abstract

In order to make a high intensity 13N+ beam, an enriched 13C graphite target is bombarded with proton beams to produce 13N atoms for feeding an ECR ion source. The desired extraction temperature, ~ 2000 K, is obtained by adjusting the beam power and target cooling. For a proton beam power of 3 kW, the extraction efficiency can be as high as 80%.
