N2 - The title compound, C H O , synthesized by reduction of 4,7-dimethyl-2-benzofuran-1,3-dione, crystallizes with two independant mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, both showing an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. The crystal packing is stabilized by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
