Abstract
This article proposes a new interpretation of the expression “(ἐπικατα)τέμνω τῶν μέτρων ἐντός” in Demosthenes, XXXVII, 36, and Hypereides, III, 35. This infraction did not concern the extension of a mine beyond the agreed boundaries, but rather the galleries that were not cut according to the minimal standard dimensions imposed by the City.
