Typology, functions and uses of early medieval polyptychs and inventories

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The richest sources for our knowledge of the countryside in Carolingian times are the polyptychs. It is quite difficult to understand them accurately : problems related to the datation, authenticity and reconstruction of the text, the author's status and aims, the function and use of the document, are at issue. In this perspective, a refined typology could be usefull.
