Synthesis of carbon nanotubes and their composites with high technology

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The laboratory LISE works on the part concerning the synthesis of the composites; the synthesis of the nanotubes being ensured by the RMN laboratory and by the laboratory of Chemical Engineering of the ULG.
Since their discovery in 1991 by Iijima, the interest for the carbon nanotubes continues to grow in the scientific community. These materials present exceptional properties like improved mechanical resistance and interesting functions for storage. Nanotubes can also be used as agent for reinforcement in matrices of different type (polymers, metals); the incorporation of the nanotubes being realised by mechanical and electrochemical ways. This constitutes one of the axes of the thesis. Another aspect is with the chemical founctionalisation of nanotubes in order to improve their dispersion within various solvents and matrices of polymer.
