Study of the apoptotic response of cybrid cells carrying the A8344G MERRF mutation in mitochondrial DNA

Project: PHD

Project Details

The MERRF syndrome seems to be characterized by an increased apoptosis in muscles, which could contribute to the symptoms of this neurodegenerative disease. In vitro, cybrid cells carrying the A8344G mutation, responsible for the MERRF syndrom, develop and enhanced apoptotic response to staurosporine, as compared to wild-type cybrid cells. We study the molecular mechanisms underlying this hypersensitivity.
