RIStart: Migration of Large Information Systems through Automated Data-Centered Program Conversion

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Database reengineering consists in deriving a new database from a legacy database and adapting associated software components accordingly.
This migration process typically involves three main steps, namely schema conversion, data conversion and program conversion.
The RIStart project focus on the program conversion phase and aims at exploring its automation. Several conversion strategies are considered and compared.
The proposed approach combines transformational and generative techniques, which are used to automatically propagate the database conversion at the program level.
Supporting tools rely on two complementary development environments, namely DB-MAIN and the ASF+SDF Meta-Environment.
