Project Details
Description
The goal of the project was to extend standard database design methodologies to the development of temporal databases (TDB). The methodology supports all the time dimensions (monotonous, transaction, valid, bi-temporal, hybrid) at the conceptual, logical and physical levels. The main results of the project are the following:
- temporal models for TDB;
- comprehensive database design methodology for DTB;
- mapping techniques for Oracle RDBMS based on the active database paradigm;
- a tool (components of DB-MAIN) that completely supports the methodology, including the generation of Oracle active databases;
- an ODBC-like API to TDB based on a subset of TSQL and providing the main algebraic temporal operators for all the time dimensions.
