Economic Analysis of NGOs

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Aid has been increasingly channelled through the NGO sector and NGOs have become major players in development. However, economic studies of this sector are scarce. Adapting the models from industrial organization literature to the non-profit context, this project analyzes the effects of competition for funds and donations between NGOs on the industry performance and on the welfare of beneficiaries and donors. Special focus is placed on NGO accountability, internationalization of the market for aid, co-operative agreements and joint appeals, and preference mismatch between donors and beneficiaries.
