Project Details


Structure determination from powder diffraction data has matured into a
technique that becomes successfully used in revealing the crystal structures
of organic, inorganic and organometallic compounds. The use of
synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data is generally not essential; this is a
consequence of the continued improvements in the resolution and
sensitivity of laboratory X-ray powder diffractometers (allowing data of
sufficiently high quality to be recorded) and advances in the methodology
for structure determination. Clearly the opportunity to determine crystal
structures reliably from X-ray powder diffraction data collected on laboratory
diffractometers is opening up the field to a much wider community of users.
A high resolution X-ray diffractometer will be used to characterize the
structures of powder samples of co-crystals of
racetams and thermo/photochromic solids.
The technique will be made available to a wide range of users.
