Description
Monocytes are exposed at the front line to LDL (or bad cholesterol). The atheroma starts with the transmigration of the monocytes to the intima, their differentiation into macrophages and finally into foam cells accumulating intracellular cholesterol, that build up the lesion. We investigate the effects of native and oxydixed LDL and LPS on the monocyte gene expression, as well as on the signalling mechanisms involved, with a particular focus on NF-kappa B and NRF-2.
