Personal profile

Introduction

Laurent Schumacher has been awarded the M.Sc.E.E. degree in 1993 (UMons, Belgium) and the Ph.D. degree in 1999 (UCL, Belgium). Following a 3-year post-doctoral stay at Aalborg Unviersitet, Denmark, he joined the Computer Science Faculty of the University of Namur, Belgium, in 2003. He is lecturing computer architecture and computer networking. He authored 30+ scientific papers and many technical reports as part of reasearch contracts awarded by the European Commission and the local authorities. He contributed to standardisation bodies, 3GPP TSG Radio Access Network WG1 and IEEE Special Committee of 802.11 High Throughput Study Group. He serves as reviewer for the Europen Commission and the Flemish agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT). His current research interests are the redesign of mobile network architecture inline with the Software Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm and crowdsourcing apps.

Areas of expertise

  • Lecturing computer architecture and computer networking for 10+ years ;
  • 15+ years of telecom-related experience: scientific papers and research projects, focused on mobile networks (WCDMA, HSDPA, LTE) ;
  • Contributed to 3GPP TSG Radio Access Network Working Group 1 document R1-01-1179 entitled "A standardized set of MIMO radio propagation channels" ;
  • Contributed to IEEE 802.11 High Throughput Study Group (802.11n channel model), with document 03/940r4 entitled "TGn Channel Models".
