Personal profile


Anne-Sophie Libert is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics since September 2014. She is also director of the Namur Institute for Complex Systems (naXys) since 2017 and board member of the Technological Platform for High Performance Computing (PTCI) since 2015.


As an FNRS (Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research) Research Fellow, she got her PhD thesis in applied mathematics at UNamur in 2007. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Thessaloniki in 2008, she obtained a 4-year F.R.S.-FNRS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at UNamur, during which she spent a one-year research stay at the University of Lille (Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Ephémérides, 2012). In 2013, she was consecutively researcher for the 'Dysco' IAP and the F.R.S.-FNRS 'ExtraOrDynHa' PDR at naXys, showing her interest for a multidisciplinary research in applied mathematics. Her main research topic is the formation and evolution of extrasolar systems, with a particular focus on the question of life in these systems (exobiology).

  • Dynamical evolution, formation and habitability of extrasolar systems (celestial mechanics, Lagrangian/Hamiltonian theory, resonance, n-body problem)
  • Dynamical systems and chaos (differential equations, chaos indicator, frequency analysis)

  • Member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), since 2012.
  • Member of the Collège des Alumni (Classe des Sciences) of the Royal Academy of Belgium,  since 2016.
  • Member of the BNEC (Belgian National ESO Committee), 2016-2020.
  • Invited Professor at the "Collège Belgique" in 2011 and 2014 (Royal Academy of Belgium).
  • Associated scientist to selected CHEOPS space mission (ESA) and PLATO space mission (ESA)
